NW Jr. Pipe Band
Last weekend while I was drinking beer and watching alternately the hockey draft and the College World Series of Baseball (go Beavs!), the fine young men and women of the Northwest Junior Pipe Band were winning the quartet and band events at the Tacoma Highland Games.
Not only did I not know there was a Tacoma Highlands Games, I also did not know there was a Northwest Junior Pipe Band but now I know and so do you. I think it’s pretty cool; the drum and the pipe make for some truly thrilling music. The band is based in the city of Shoreline and is open to youths aged 8 to 18 who are interested in Scottish piping or drumming. The band wears traditional civilian-style Scottish uniforms with the MacKenzie tartan and perform at public at private events all over the NW. Upcoming appearances include at the Seafair Wallingford Kiddies Parade on July 7th and at the Skagit Valley Highland Games on July 14 & 15. Check ‘em out. [MySpace]. If you go see them at the Skagit Valley Highland Games, you’ll be on hand at an event that features food and drink and music, athletic events and sheepdog trials and, let me tell you, you cannot go wrong at an event featuring sheepdog trials.

Thanks for the blog! We actually accept kids younger than 8 years old now, having a drummer in our beginning band who started when she was 7, and a couple of beginning pipers under 8 as well.
NWJPB won Best Marching Band at the Wallingford Parade, and are looking forward to the Skagit Valley games this weekend!
