Weekend Agenda

Stuff to do. Yes, stuff:
Friday 7 p.m. – Cinema On The Lawn [1]: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” @ South Lake Union – “Bring your picnics, blankets and low back chairs! No outside alcoholic beverages.” Which means you’ll have to give them your money to get all likkered up while you watch. ‘Cause nothing screams “drunken revelry” like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. And drinking cold beer while getting rained on, that’ll be good for your constitution.
Friday – Au Yong & Blasdel: BreathPlay @ Chapel Performance Space [2] – “An improvised music/sound art concert exploring sounds from around the Pacific Rim using shakuhachi (Japanese end-blown bamboo flute), Chinese percussion, piano, water, and voice.” Water as a musical instrument, it’s gotta be tough to hold on to. Ha.
Friday – Dudley Manlove [3] Prom 2007 @ Showbox – Dress up in your baby-blue rented tux, or make sure your prom dress shows off your assets. Special guest stars like Chris Ballew [4] and Sean Nelson [5] and Tennis Pro [6] help with the festivities.
Friday/Saturday midnight – The “Buffy” Musical Sing-A-Long @ Egyptian Theater – The let’s-make-this-episode-a-musical idea, as implemented by Joss Wheden’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”. Come in costume, see it on the big screen, and sing yer guts out.
Friday – The Tubes @ The Triple Door – Back in the day, The Tubes had a #1 hit “She’s A Beauty”, but they’re more (more?) famous for their live performances, which are such that “their influence can be seen in many of the visually oriented groups of today such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson and others.”
Saturday 10 a.m. – UW Surplus Auction @ UW Surplus Property Public Store (1137 NE Boat St.) – Admit it. You’ve been on the lookout for a 25 person self-inflating raft [7]. Don’t want to pay EBay shipping costs? Here [8] is your solution. If you are too lazy (or hung from the previous night’s activity), you can bid in your skivvies from the comfort of your home computer, too.
Saturday-July 4th – Wooden Boat Festival [9] @ Lake Union – I bet wooden boats float better than concrete ones [10].
Saturday 30th – West Edge Chalk Talk [11] @ West Edge, Downtown – It’s still not clear to me why that area needs to be branded, but, they’re doing it anyway. Go see people make chalk art on concrete. Ah, city livin’.
Saturday 30th – Strawberry Theatre Workshop Benefit & Silent Auction featuring “Awesome” @ Erickson Theatre – An excellent excuse to support local theater (not that you NEED an excuse). “Awesome” has new tunes based on some of Miranda July’s short stories, and, they are as is their authors. Grammar checker says that sentence is ok, but, I’m not even sure if it makes sense. How about a simpler version: songs good.
Saturday 30th – Thee Emergency, The Hands, Shim @ Funhouse – I do dance to Thee Emergency.
Saturday 30th – Celebrity Texas Hold ‘Em fundraiser [12] @ W Hotel – Former Seahawks running back Kerry Carter’s foundation. There’s gonna be a slew of past-and-present NFL players, and Death Cab for Cutie, and Sir-Mix-A-Lot. Yes, the Mix.
