buffy in seattle!

Buffydance

I know that it’s usually up to Zee and Samantha to fight over who gets to tell you about the upcoming midnight movies at the Egyptian, but this one might require a little more planning; so here we go …

It’s been four long years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer exited the television universe, leaving fans only with cherished re-runs, DVD collections, and in anticipation of an eighth season in comic book form. In a couple weeks, in the middle of the night, Buffy will be appearing on the big screen in Seattle. No, not in the form of the 1992 film, but as an “interactive extravaganza” of Joss Whedon’s brilliant sixth season musical episode, “Once More, With Feeling”, in which the Sunnydale gang is infected with the curse of musical theater, with all of its related singing, dancing, and confession of dark secrets through song.

The episode was one of the true gems of the show’s late seasons. On the 29th and 30th of this month you can relive the magic, sing along Rocky Horror style (except with less toilet paper and toast), in costume (except with less leather, cross-dressing, an nudity — I hope) or not, and celebrate one of the best television shows ever in a giant old movie theater full of fans.

Tickets are available online [landmark]; more details are available at the “Buffy Musical On the Big Screen” page [uncoolkids] — including something about the landfall of an Alaskan Slayer Cruise in Seattle on the 29th.

(a thousand thank-yous to TV Gal for pointing this out [p-i])

“in anticipation of an eighth season in comic book form”

Not so much anticipation for the series anymore, since it’s now 4 issues old. =)

Ok, fine, I anticipate the next issue, due in 1.5 months or so.

a self-serving clarification: the “in anticipation” referred to the majority of the time between the television finale in May 2003 and the first issue of the comic in March 2007. (not quite, but approximately four years).
