The new Cha Cha: Second verse, same as the first

For something around a decade, the Cha Cha and its accompanying Bimbo’s Bitchin’ Burrito Kitchen have been supplying cheap beer and a steady (and amusing) scene for Capitol Hill. The building that they’ve lived in is going to be wrecked and probably turned into “luxury” condos and Subways, so they moved from Pine St. all the way over to 11thish and Pike. Bimbos opened back up on Wednesday, and the new Cha Cha opened last night.

The new Cha Cha is reached down a steep flight of wooden stairs, which I’ll probably fall down at least once this year, because I am clumsy. Earlier in the evening I had run into an acquaintance who said that the place looks just like the old one only with higher ceilings and man, he wasn’t kidding. The thatched bar and photo booths were still there, the walls were lined in deep U-shaped booths and covered in cheap sombreros and goofy pinatas. My whiskey soda was strong and the place was packed with hipsters. The only real difference is the new foosball table.

You can feel free to argue in the comments about how you thought the old Cha Cha blew and so a new one is going to be just as bad, but I’m just glad to see that everything isn’t turning into chromed martini bars and T-Mobile stores. Yet.
