Recommendotron: happy hours, dive bar, bathing suits and food, of course!
Per little ole me:
Seattle Happy Hour Guide–Wiki style: Does everyone know what a Wiki is? It’s a Web site that allows visitors to add, remove and edit content. Sort of like WIKIpedia. This week, I discovered a Happy Hour Guide for Seattle that lists drink and food specials, happy hour days and times, etc., but the outdated information can be changed and updated as you and others see fit. Spectacular! Now, mapping out my weekend by cheap drinks is a whole lot easier.
Agua Verde Cafe: I know, old news. But, if you live in Seattle and you still haven’t been to this restaurant, it’s a crime against humanity. Go immediately, but keep in mind that it’s usually a 20-minute to one-half hour wait. They do have those neat little buzzer things, however, so you can spend your wait time playing checkers or watching the boats at the tables along the waterfront. When you do finally get a table, it’s hard to decide which margarita to get (five different kinds) or which entree to order (salmon tacos, enchiladas de mariscos with halibut and shrimp, yam tacos), but if it includes the amazing creamy avocado sauce they seem to slather on everything, then you can’t go wrong. Oh, and did I mention the salsa bar? Or the guacamole? Deeevine.
Teddy’s Tavern: Just when I thought I heard of every bar in this city, I’m introduced to yet another. Since I live in Queen Anne, I’m embarrassed to admit that I frequent the same areas of town, and 65th isn’t one of them. I might be changing my tune now, however, just based on the back patio at Teddy’s. I like swanky bars; I like dive bars, and I like ones just in the middle. Teddy’s is definitely in the dive bar category, but it’s better than most. Why? Because of the huge fenced-in back patio with lots of tables and chairs, lights around the perimeter and a PING PONG TABLE. How sweet is that? Inside, there are plenty of beers on tap, a dartboard and pool table, and what has rumored to be some of the best margaritas in town. (I guess I’ve been on a margarita kick this week).
Tininha’s Butique de Biquini: Say that five times fast. Ok. I swear, the weather will take a turn for the better and HOT here soon, puhlease?! Here is Seattle, I think most are grateful we don’t live in an area of the nation where a bathing suit (and accompanying bathing suit body) is mandatory for more than one-fourth of the year. But, we all have to suck it up some time, and a place that offers options for more than those eensy teensy girls is preferred. A fellow curvy friend of mine will not stop raving about Fremont’s Tininha’s. “The place has gorgeous suits, every suit came in my size, and most suits are hand picked from Italy and Brazil. They are spendy, but for me, it’s like a good pair of jeans–worth it!”
Elysian Brewery’s black bean cakes: Last night at our monthly Metblog meet-up (good to see you all there!), I ordered black bean cakes, an entree I’ve never tried at a restaurant before but seriously something I’ll be searching for in the future. The cakes were “hand-pressed and pan-seared, and served over a mixed baby green salad with guacamole and topped with sweet corn vinaigrette.” I cleaned my plate, something I usually don’t do, but this time I couldn’t help it. I’m now inclined to search the city for black bean cakes. Or, even better, does anyone know a good recipe?

Jeanna I have the best recipe for black bean cake with a sweet potato sauce to f ing die for that actually kicks the Elysian’s ass!
Brittany:
Oh man. I’m a HUGE sweet potato fan, add that to my new black bean cake obsession, and I might spontaneously combust. Post or send the recipe along!
I believe C Ro enjoyed the black bean cakes at Cafe Flora, they looked tasty!
