Weekend Film Agenda
This weekiend is yet another great for Seattle film fans.
There’s SIFF, of course, [mb]. Earlier in the week I mentioned The Colour of Olives [mb] which continues at Central Cinema. Still, there’s even more:
- Paprika opens at the Varsity. Our own Patricia saw it at SIFF [mb] and urged you: “If you can possibly find a way to see this movie, do it.”. Now you can.
- The Grand Illusion features week 2 of their “A Slap in the Face” event with the third in Michael Haneke’s emotional glaciation trio, Funny Games, a brutal, provocative thriller about the sadistic games that ensue when a pair of killers invade a luxe Austrian country home. Not for the squeamish. 7 pm daily 3 pm Sat/Sun.
- Our friends at Northwest Film Forum invite you to take in 20, 30, 40, A Trio of Concert Films which kicks off tonight with 20 year old Sign o’ the Times, the brilliant documentary about Prince on tour in Copenhagen and his hometown of Minneapolis. The film features concert clips, interviews, a Sheena Easton video, dance interludes and narrative vignettes. 7 & 9:15 pm.
This is followed by “30″–that is, ABBA: The Movie. Serious ABBA fans know this, but the group wasn’t just phonetic-English fluff. (6/11 - 14, 7 & 9:15 pm).
Next week: Don’t Look Back turns 40. Thanks to loyal reader Julia for this tip: Seattle.net is giving you a chance to win tickets to this classic documentary on Bob Dylan. [site]
