- First, I would like to point out that my two favorite bands are playing this weekend: the Wrens on Saturday and Okkervil River on Sunday. The Wrens are unmissable live, with the thrilling intensity that only comes from a palpable sensation of riding on a last chance. I never realized that the desperate passion of The Meadowlands lost so much in the recording process until I heard it while breathing the same air as Charles Bissell. As those who caught last year’s Georgetown Music Fest surely remember, the charming grit of Okkervil River’s earliest efforts shines through even the glossiest bits of Black Sheep Boy in their live shows. Also, Will Sheff’s hotness goes all supernova in person. (Sera Cahoone and Ghost stories support, which is nothing to sneeze at.) Catch both while you can, lucky you. [croc, neumos]
- The Rosebuds’s latest, on the always excellent Merge, is full of grown-up couple cuteness, exploring the drama of building a home together. The chemistry between the two is sure to be palpable at Neumos on Friday night. [neumos]
- Pretty Girls Make Graves play their last show on Saturday night–their last two shows, for that matter. The late show is sold out, but the early show is still open; both are all-ages. [neumos]
- Noise for the Needy continues on Friday at the Comet with The Lights and Thee Emergency, The Whore Moans, and Kissing Potion, and moves to Chop Suey on Saturday for a hip-hop showcase featuring Common Market. [mb, noise for the needy]
- Avoid the U-District at all costs on Saturday–it’s UW graduation. Consider yourself warned. [uw]
- And last but not least, SIFF! [mb, siff]
