Monday Political Agenda: Save Seattle’s nightlife

The Seattle Nightlife and Music Association (SNMA) is an organization of local club and bar owners who have banded together to fight our current City Administration’s plans to enact legislation that will hamstring our historically strong music & nightlife scene. If you want a quick overview of the threats facing Seattle’s nightlife, check out their site (http://www.seattlenma.org); I also recommend reading through The Stranger’s archives as they’ve done a great job of reporting on this issue in depth.

Today, Monday, June 4, the Seattle City Council is having a public meeting at City Hall to discuss the city’s plans to support the Mayor’s proposal to create a new nightlife license which would give the pro-condo developer, anti-people administration to shut down clubs at their pleasure. Don’t be fooled by talk of noise and nuisance complaints from the city’s side–existing laws address these issues. The hearing is today at 5:30 pm at City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 600 - 4th Ave.

If you can’t make the meeting, please take the time to let the City Council know how you feel about the proposed legislation:
