Missing jogger returns safe and sound

Sometimes, you go out for a run and just don’t feel like coming home right away. So maybe you go get some coffee or an ice cream, do a little shopping, run down another block. And sometimes, it seems, you simply don’t come home for three days, setting off a great big search that keeps volunteers out in the rain all weekend.

I don’t know, I just feel like there’s something a little fishy in the story of the Cougar Mountain man who disappeared on Friday and came home yesterday with a story about falling in a ravine but without any apparent injuries [P-I]. Don’t you think that if you fell thoroughly enough to be knocked unconscious for a few days, you’d look at least a little tattered? What was he really doing out there? Hanging with D. B. Cooper? Checking on the treasure that was really in that safe in Tacoma, a treasure that he had spirited away when no one was looking like in a Scooby Doo episode?

Really, the important part is that the man is safe and at home, that he is no longer lost and possibly knocked out at the bottom of a ravine. There will be no further investigation into where he went and what happened, except perhaps by his wife.

I wonder if during the search, his wife said “If he’s not dead, I’m going to kill him when he shows up.”

I think I would have to resist the urge to strangle him if he casually strolled through the door after three days.

This guy claims to be unconscious for 3 days without shelter?

I went running Sunday afternoon for an hour (about 1.3% of three days) in the rain. When I had finished and my heart rate returned to normal, it took all of 5 minutes before I was shivering and on my way to my car. It took 20 minutes with my car heater on high and a hot shower before I felt normal again. If anyone had unconscious for 3 days outside this weekend, someone would be planning their funeral.

Running in the rain and being knocked out would be two different experiences, wouldn’t it? Maybe when he was knocked out, some squirrels snuggled up to him to keep him warm. Stranger things have happened! I’m sure he’s got some major bumps and bruises that a Dr.s report would back up.

I have now read your posting 3 times because I just can’t believe this whole thing. This guy has to be an idiot if he thinks the whole thing doesn’t stink of lies. Come on. I just hope his wife got over the initial trauma of his disappearance and now has the strength to get through his forced disappearance. Can I just say “asshole”? Actually, this whole incident would be great for SNL’s Weekend Update sketch called “REALLY??”.

A google search of Michael Schreck doesn’t turn up much besides the weekend’s news, but a google search of Mick Schreck sure does.

Apparently, the family’s statement they released says:

“Somewhere on Squak he slipped off the trail, fell and was knocked unconscious,” the statement continued. “He remained so for days but at some time had managed to roll under a log and cover himself with leaves for warmth.”

I find it absolutely miraculous that he was able to roll under a log and cover himself with leaves while he was unconscious. I’m thinking he should start a wilderness survival class titled, “How to Survive for Three Days in the Woods Unconscious.” And he could teach people how to build fires and scrounge for food…all while passed out in a ravine!

Samantha, you do not know the man you are defaming. He has not told a lie in his life.

Every question mark within the ridiculous story told by Michael Schreck should be intensely scrutinized, examined and investigated by not only the authorities, but his wife. It’s not just a question of whether or not he was with another woman, because WHATEVER the reason, she should know the truth first and foremost. As far as the authorities are concerned, the fact that a combination of agencies and volunteers spent considerable time and effort searching for him means that any story as implausible as his should not be disregarded as “That’s his story and he’s sticking to it”. Sticking to that story would mean that he shouldn’t have a problem showing exactly where he “fell” into the ravine, and where he took shelter and “slept”(?)for 3 days. The money, effort and man hours spent on this should DEMAND the real story, which of course Michael will not tell until faced with absolute proof. The person who stated that Samantha “Does not know the man she’s defaming” because he “Hasn’t told a lie in his life”, while I admire his/her blind loyalty, is beyond delusional if they believe Michael’s story, not to mention their own statement.
