Weekend Agenda: More Jam Packed Than The 44 Bus!
It’s the weekend! WOOO!! And that means it’s time to crank up Night Ranger!!!!
Except YouTube didn’t have the video. But they did have this, which was funnier.
Anyway, on with your weekend agenda.
FRIDAY
The Lashes United State of Electronica Benefit for Eric Lashes. Eric Lashes was seriously injured in an accident this week, but USE is stepping up to host a benefit for him out at the Old Firehouse in Redmond tonight. Yes, it’s Redmond and gas is $3.50/gallon, but it’s a benefit, people, and it’s all-ages. (8pm, $6)
Melissa Ferrick, Erin McKeown. Otherwise, you could get your fix of East Coast lesbian singer-songwriters. Because, I tell you, sometimes you just want a break from West Coast heterosexual singer-songwriters. (Neumos, 8ish, $15 if you bought in advance)
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY! DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE, DOUBLE YOUR FUN!
Blue Scholars Album Release Party — Two Nights! Bayani drops June 12. To celebrate, the boys are having two nights of release party goodness at the Showbox. Will their new label and new tracks give them and the whole Northwest a toehold in the crowded hip-hop marketplace? Find out. (I don’t know, I’m mid-30s and the last rap group I regularly listened to was the Beastie Boys.) (8pm doors open both days, $15 advance)
SATURDAY
Music. Let’s see… Blakes and Speaker Speaker at the Croc, Taylor Hicks at the Moore, Jason Webley at the Vera Project, Branford Marsalis at Jazz Alley, that Celtic Woman thing everyone my age is into at the WaMu BunkerTheatre… nah, stick with Blue Scholars at the Showbox.
Glass Eye Studio is having a Sidewalk Sale. 600 NW 40th Street, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm. Bring your own bag and packing material. If you’re like me and just moved, you have a lot of that.
Also, my former neighbors are having a yard sale. 11009 Fremont Ave N in beautiful Broadview, 9am-4pm. And there will even be some of my stuff in it, if you’re up for buying an old electric steamer and a first-generation Foreman Grill.
2001 — the Egyptian midnight movie. Yeah, you’ve seen it and it’s a cliche blah blah blah, but you need to see it on the big screen at least once in your life. True story: First time my dad saw it, he was in Singapore on shore leave. He was really drunk and sat in the front row. It was the closest he ever came to having his mind expanded. (On the ship he was known as the narc.)
BONUS ALL WEEKEND GARDENING X-CITEMENT!
Mother’s Day Blooming Plant Sale @ the Center for Urban Horticulture. You like flowering plants? Then your friends and neighbors at the Northwest Orchid Society will set you up. Sat. 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Sun. 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
SUNDAY
It’s Mother’s Day. As Bear Bryant would say, call you mother, he wishes he could. Well, if he wasn’t dead and in the ground for over 20 years now.
Archie McPhee Sidewalk Sale. Go check out their current non-celebration of the Ballard annexation centenary — with bargains!
Peter, Bjorn and John (2 shows). “Young Folks.” That whistling song. You know it if you listen to KEXP. It’s burrowed into your head. It annoys the hell out of you. If you were at SXSW, you couldn’t get away from it — or them. And the only redeeming quality of the song — the Swedish indie beauty Victoria Bergsman and her lovely voice that sounds like a ragged and weary Hope Sandoval — won’t be at either show. Still, the cool kids will be there, so you better show up, square. Oh wait, it’s a double show sellout. Guess you’re watching the 60 Minutes season finale at home instead, loser. (Guess what? Morley Safer totally nails a guy — and he shot Steve Kroft! HA! Spoiled it for you!) (Neumo’s, sold out)
Otherwise, on Sunday… why don’t you recommend something?

Bebban Stenborg (from the Shout Out Louds) sang with PB&J on “Young Folks” when they played at Coachella. I wonder if she’s along for the rest of the West Coast tour?
Other little known fact about Writer’s Block: the best song on the album isn’t “Young Folks”, it’s “Objects of My Affection”.
I half-agree with Josh. The best song on the album is “Amsterdam,” followed closely by “Objects of My Affection.”
If one plant sale isn’t enough, Friends of the Volunteer Park Conservatory are holding a plant sale there today, 10am-3pm.
