Better Late Than Alone?: Solo on Queen Anne
So, I’ve totally missed the “new and exciting” boat on this one. Open since October 2006, Solo has been reviewed and revered by a number of media outlets in Seattle, including us. [mb] I live six blocks away, but had yet to check it out until last night, and I’m just dying to get my two cents in.
What I’ve noticed about Solo the times I’ve passed by is the lack of bar-goers actually at the bar. Surprising, since Queen Anne’s nightlife is usually popping any night of the week. But, if the packed, meat-market vibe from Ozzie’s and Peso’s isn’t what you’re looking for, then Solo is your place. I chose the local spot to catch-up with a friend, and it couldn’t have been better. So, it’s a little quiet and dead. What more perfect an environment for conversation or a date? Not to mention it’s swanky and classy with red curtains, low lighting, a microsuede couch, punk rock art on the wall and a large projection screen, playing old black and white movies.
While I was most impressed with the inexpensive menu–full plates for $8-10 and appetizers for $5-6–I had already eaten dinner. However, I couldn’t resist trying two drinks I’ve never seen on a bar’s menu before–the Kalimotxo (cheap red wine and Coca-Cola, $5) and the Clara (light draft beer with a bit of grapefruit juice, $3.50). Mixing two inexpensive staples with something a little new and saucy?!? Genius.
Solo offers an ALL DAY happy hour on Sundays and Mondays (that’s right, I said ALL DAY) and is working on devoting their Friday nights to DJ sets, Saturdays to live bands and Sundays for Easy Street Records‘ owner, Matt Vaughn, to spin his favorite new releases each week. [nwsource]
I vote go. Go tonight. Support the local establishment, buy one or four drinks, and save it from falling victim to the curse that seems to be haunting the bars and restaurants at the top of the hill.

But we can’t go tonight, it’s the meetup tonight!
oh shoot. it slipped my mind cause I have to go to a wedding rehearsal dinner tonight and will miss the meet up.
correction:
I vote go. Go tomorrow! ;)
