too many great things happening this weekend (which is why we’ve already split off the films [mb] and outdoor [mb] — what did we do to deserve so many compelling options all at the same time?

  • It was something of a battle, but My Brightest Diamond really won me over when she opened for Sufjan Stevens last winter with her enchantingly unique style. Tonight, she’s warming up the stage for the Decemberists, who continue to dive headlong into old-timey epic song territory. Rumor has is that the current incarnation of their show features a giant whale costumes, dance contests, and the occasional wedding. The sound at the Paramount is notoriously finicky; so arrive early and seek out decent acoustics. 8p, $27.50+ [paramount]
  • Seattle’s promoters are really making the most genreists among us make impossible selections, night after night. Fans of challenging eclecticism tonight will be pushed to pick between the prior arty item and the compelling sonic oddness of sister act CocoRosie. L.A.-based Busdriver, who you might remember from his guest stints on the latest Islands record, has developed a cult following around free-association hiphop that goes so fast that it’s impossible to rap along. 8p, $12 [neumos]
  • If you didn’t get enough of Elvis Costello covers last month at the Crocodile for Pete’s birthday or are just in need of another fix, 826 Seattle has you covered. This time a ton of local bands are covering his songs to raise money for Seattle’s favorite nonprofit writing center. 9p, $7 [sunset]
