That Sinking Feeling (or, stay away from the University Bridge right now)

Eastlake Sinkhole map As I’m driving down Roosevelt into work, I see a copter hovering about a mile or two ahead. And as I’m trying to cycle through my head what it could be, I see a second copter. Someone go postal at my job? D.B. Cooper and Sasquatch seen making out? Seattle having a helicopter convention?

Nope. Major water main break under the University Bridge opened up a huge sinkhole under the bridge itself, swallowing two cars and leaving the Eastlake neighborhood thirsty. The bridge is closed pending an emergency inspection. Portage Bay Road is toast thanks to the sinkhole.

And traffic in the U District south of about 40th is a nightmare right now. The Montlake Bridge and Pacific Avenue look like it’s 5pm and a Husky game day all at once. Just stay away from the area.

So, how’s your morning going otherwise?

Wow, my husband and I used to live on Portage Bay East. We moved exactly 1 year ago. Right now I’m glad we did…..
Of course, back in December when we were out of power in West Seattle and Portage Bay still had power I was singing a different tune.

My water was brown this morning. Now I know why.

I was just thinking the same thing, Ryan, although my water was more orange than brown.
