Not Afraid to be Servicey

As Dylan already pointed out [mb], there’s a big frickin’ hole in the middle of Eastlake. Unsurprisingly, this has affected bus routes a bit. Metro identifies Route 49, Route 66, Route 70, Route 71, Route 72 and Route 73 as detoured routes [#].

Although the Eastlake routes are the only ones detoured, all the Montlake routes are undoubtedly affected as well. First I was surprised and confused to see a 70 zip by me at 23rd & John, the bus I used to take to work regularly. But then I was less surprised and confused when the bus came to a complete halt before the 520 interchange. After ten minutes the bus driver opened the doors and said, “Anyone want to walk?” All the usual 520 transfers promptly disembarked. All told, the 43 took 40 minutes to get from southeast Capitol Hill to southwest UW. Moral of the story: forget the bus, time to start kayaking to work.

i was joking with a friend that one of the house boaters with a boat should have offered to ferry all the stranded bus riders across the water. i would have freely given them five bucks for a ride.
