May Art Outlook: Gallery Edition

We have a great local art scene here in Seattle; there are a ton of galleries and other exhibit spaces and artists of all sortrs of abilities working in all sorts of genres and media. Here is just a very small selection of what you can see around town in May:

The James Harris Gallery [site] presents a photographic series by Amri Zaki called At What Point is the Wax no Longer Wax? .Zaki explores the landscape of Southern California by examining aspects of nature like desolate shrubbery, like dying trees and tangled bushes against darkened landscape. (May 3rd through June 2nd, reception May 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm).

Blue Bottle Art Gallery [site] always has something clever on dispay and this month is no exception. From May 8th through May 31th they are presenting Count the Birdies by Matthew Porter [site] whose beautifully rendered fairytale book like works are charming and bright, cute without being twee. (Opening reception:Saturday, May 19th, 6 - 8pm)

If you haven’t been to Viveza [site to see Aesthetic of Complexity an artistic exploration based on Complexity Science yet, you should add it to your to see list.

Facere Jewlery Art [site] opens a new exhbiit on May 16 (reception that day, from 5 - 7 pm) entitled Signs of Life, it runs through June.

The Union Street Electric Gallery at the Seattle City Light facility at Western and Union is supposed to enhance the work experience of Seattle City Light employees. Through Novmber of this yeaer, the sole work in the gallery is vinyl-mesh mural 14 feet high and 100 feet long by painter Mary Iverson. Stir depicts the experience of being in a wind storm. (Do we have wind farms in the area?) I love art galleries in general, yes, but I must admit I have a super-special fondness for non-traditional sorts of exhibition spaces and I think ti’s great that the city is hosting this one.

ArtWorks Gallery [site]presents oil portraits of family, friends, and favorites entitled Things That Are Important To Me by young local artist Megan Shore. (Reception May 3 from 6-9 pm)
