It holds the drive motors that lift the north span. The room has so many doors to enable workers to get to the machinery from the outside in case they need to replace a damaged part. Took a picture of the troll and forwarded it to my out-of-town friends. It's not a bad walk from the Fremont bridge, although VERY uphill (and astonishingly inland).
