Let’s Go To The Movies
For three and a half weeks every year, I live on popcorn and diet soda. Ok, so not really, but I do spend more time at the movies than I do anywhere else (including work - shhhhh, don’t tell my boss). Those three and a half weeks comprise the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF). This year’s festival runs from May 24th through June 17th.
Last year’s festival featured 418 films. There were 60 documentaries, 198 narratives, 4 secret films, 141 short films, and 15 archival films. I personally saw 14 films last year including: Beowulf and Grendel, The Heart of the Game, Isolation, The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, and Evil Aliens (possibly the best movie I’ve ever seen).
In addition to their soon-to-be-announced lineup, SIFF features a series of four movies in their Secret Festival. If you sign up for the Secret Festival, you must sign an non-disclosure agreement stating that you will never, ever discuss the movies you are about to see. I saw all four secret movies last year and I’m not allowed to tell you about any of them.
The 2007 SIFF lineup will be announced on May 10th. If you just can’t wait that long, you can become a SIFF member and attend a special sneak preview night on May 9th.
I’ll be at the preview event and will probably be up until after midnight that night figuring out which films I’m going to go see.
