Seattle Times and P-I reach agreement
What would Seattle do without both the Times and the P-I to report on important celebrity news? [mb] Now we won’t have the suffer the horror of finding out, because the Times and P-I have reached an agreement to allow both papers to continue publishing–a boon for Seattle bloggers, I might add. Twice the crap to link and rehash!
So how did the two newspapers cover their own thrilling story? Both have the headline at the very top of their respective frontpages, but the stories are substantially different. The Times’ report is terse, measuring but three brief paragraphs. Come on, the Girl about Town has almost as much to say about some girl that used to be on Q13!
The P-I, meanwhile, has a full eight-paragraph extravaganza, complete with quotes from multiple sources and actual explanation of the deal. Sorry Times, but when it comes to talking about yourself, the P-I totally wins.
Congratulations to both on ending a four-year legal battle! Perhaps now without the distraction of a legal tussle, both papers can get back to, you know, publishing halfway decent newspapers.
HOT UPDATE! 11:39am: At 10:45am, the Times expanded its coverage to 21 paragraphs with quotes from five sources! Meanwhile, at 11:15am, the P-I lengthened its story to a meager 14 paragraphs with an identical five sources. The Times has officially reclaimed the title of most indulgent in self-referential reporting!
