Norwescon 30

There’s a four-day science-fiction fantasy convention going on this weekend (Thurs-Sun). I like science fiction and fantasy, and I had the day off for Good Friday, so I thought I’d drop by for two days. Eep. I’m not sure if it’s huge by the standards of these conventions, but to me, it’s simply enormous. My badge # was in the early-2000’s, and there were more still more people signing in when I left at 10pm.

I like the fact that there is a wide variety of talks going on at any one time: reality-based, writing-based, about the books, and usually a reading from an author. Everything I’ve heard has been very interesting. The people watching is … phenomenal. The people themselves have been really nice and friendly (or, in some cases, exhausted).

So very true! I filled one 4Gb memory card yesterday, and I’m back again today for more.

For virtual connish peoplewatching, keep an eye out on the ‘norwescon’ tag or group on Flickr. Everything there is from last year right now, but I’m sure this year’s will start to show up before too long!

There’s also a three day anime(Japanese Animation) convention taking place at the Washington State Convention Center this weekend called Sakura-Con.

They’re expecting close to 10,000 people to attend. There’s coverage of it on this website.

AHA! That explains a real mystery. I’d noticed a significant absence of anime costumes. I guess they were all over at Sakuracon.
