- Mudhoney @ Neumo’s. Not only is Neumo’s incense-infested, but they cancelled Viva Voce and the Village Green in favor of some public birthday party thing tonight. But Seattle grunge refugees Mudhoney will be there, and the suggested donation will benefit earplug purveryors Hearing Education & Awareness for Rockers. Edit: Okay, so better-informed commenter Jason pointed out that Viva Voce were the ones that cancelled, in order to continue touring with the Shins. So blame the Shins, like usual.[#]
- Shout Out Out Out Out @ Chop Suey. This Edmonton sextet is one of those bands that’s supposed to be a million times better live than on record–so if you liked the record, you’re in luck. I guess. [#]
- Eric Clapton @ Key Arena. Get your old man rock on at the Seattle Center! Tickets are, predictably, Craigslist-only (and/or scalpers). [#]
- Wild Strawberries (1957) and Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) @ SIFF. The Essential Art House fest [mb] goes on, with tonight’s screening of two Ingmar Bergman films whose original releases bookended that of 1957’s The Seventh Seal. Beware the crowds of doddering Eric Clapton fans. [#]
- Endgame (1988) @ Northwest Film Forum. Part of the Thursdays with Beckett series, NWFF screens the Seattle premiere of a filmed staging of Beckett’s play focused on the parallels between the end of a chess game and the end of life. Uplifting! Performed by the San Quentin Drama Workshop, the only American company ever directed by Beckett himself. [#]
I saw Shout Out Out Out Out in Brooklyn a couple weeks ago. They’re awesome live. If you like silly hipster dancing, a light show entirely effected by incandescent bulbs, talking about having bad credit, and insanely high kicks combined with impressive microphone twirling. Aka: Lots of fun.
while neumo’s has its problems, viva voce were the ones who cancelled after they were asked to continue opening for the shins on the current tour.
Oh wow, thanks for the tip Jason! I’ll edit accordingly…
