It might be possible to see many of these bands tonight, but it will require careful planning and fast walking.

  • Every time that Phil Elverum comes to town, I tell you that you should go to see what happens. Will it be solo acoustic? Will he form a superband from all of the other bands on the lineup? Find out! Sit on the floor and sing along. Find yourself tempted to move to Anacortes! Check out the new all-ages venue run by Atlas Clothing! [myspace]
  • I couldn’t have been happier to learn that Mat Brooke has teamed up with other local luminaries Curtis Hall (the Jeunes), Jeff Montano (the New Mexicans), and Ron Lewis (Ghost Stories) for a new band free of frontmen and egos [thestranger]. Archives [myspace] posted two downloads stuffed with lush harmonies with just a touch of sadness and americana. They play their their first show tonight, opening for Tiny Vipers and Sera Cahoone, whose inclusion of a banjo always leaves open the possibility of a spontaneous hoedown. [neumos]
  • Luckily for Under Byen [myspace], their lead singer is tall and blonde. Otherwise, they might draw Bjork comparisons, with their intensely delicate vocals flitting above rumbling backgrounds of primitive percussion, singing saw, and pensive strings. Somewhere, I read the words “industrial lullabies” applied to their music. It is a staggeringly accurate description. [chopsuey]

Don’t miss Under Byen! I saw them in San Francisco on Monday, and I’m seeing them again tonight. They are very unique. Who knows when they’ll come through again.
