Friday

  • The Seattle International Film Festival recently acquired a theater all of their own in Seattle Center. During March and April, they’re showing it off a retrospective of essential art films from the Janus Collection. Tonight’s slate includes Fellini’s La Strada, in which a girl is sold for few coins to carnival strong man Zampanò; a magic realism betrayal of neorealism; and “the complete catalogue of [Fellini's] entire mythological world.” Like most of the movies in the retrospective, it’s one of those that I’ve been meaning to see forever but unwilling to watch on my tiny television screen. • Night Canopy [myspace] are Amy Blaschke and Nick DeWitt from Pretty Girls Make Graves.1 They release their new record, Of Honey and Country, out into the world at tonight’s CD release party. If that isn’t incentive enough to get you out of the house, perhaps this will convince you: Jenny Jimenez from the Catch is part of their live show; Ghost Stories [myspace] and Fleet Foxes [myspace] fill out the rest of the evening. Saturday

  • Amateur night at just about every bar in town, particularly those with an Mc, O’, or Thistle on their sign. Brave the hordes to drink green beer or plant yourself at home watching nonstop basketball. With WSU playing a mid-afternoon game against Vanderbilt and everyone pretending to be Irish, Seattle might face a critical beer shortage. Plan accordingly.

1. who just announced [mb] their impending discontinuation/breakup early this year, and recently revealed that their last show ever would be at neumo’s on 9 June; buy tickets sooner than later [ticketswest]. It’s way easier than dealing with craigslist or pining away for a reunion at the 2017 capitol hill block party.
