Why does everything have to be decided on how much its going to cost??? Why couldn't we one day get it right and decide based on what is best for the people and the planet and the future.

its so easy to stay the course till we see that we're about to crash. only then do we care enough to do something about it.

when will we wake up and care about what happens to tomorrow...even when we're no longer here.

The whole damn thing pisses me off! First we are having an election and wasting a million dollars on a vote that means absolutely nothing. The purse strings are held in Olympia and they already said that the tunnel is dead. That leaves the repairing/rebuilding the viaduct the only option left that meets the states requirements. There's a delicate balance that must be struck that most people don't seem to get. It needs to be safe, it needs to be economical, and it needs to carry the existing traffic with room for a little more. The only one that currently seems to meet these reqs is repairing the Viaduct (safety among the tunnel and viaduct options seem iffy though, but the surface street option decreases the amount of traffic that can be handled by 25% which is unacceptable to the state).

Oh, but those poor down-trodden car-owners will lose their views to robber-baron downtown property owners if we make the waterfront nice.

Sorry. I made the mistake of reading Slog comments recently and haven't quite recovered yet.
