Two nights of hot Seattle jazz
Saturday, January 20, the highly renowned Roosevelt High School jazz band [site] holds a concert reuiniting jazz band members from as far back as 1969. The concert starts swinging at 7:30 pm at the Roosevelt High School Performing Arts Center, but if you want in and don’t already have tickets, you’ll want to put on your best sad look and hope for mercy because the show’s sold out. (You might want to bookmark the site to keep up with future events.)
The equally deservedly renowned Garfield High School jazz band [site] was scheduled to have a show of their own, featuring all four school bands, at Lincoln High School on Sunday, January 21, but the show’s been cancelled due to the number of recent snow days. A fine, fine substitute would be to stop by Tula’s in Belltown (2214 - 2nd Ave) Sunday afternoon to watch bands III and IV play with Jay Thomas from 3 - 4 pm. Afterwards you can stick around to see Thomas’s big band Collateral Damage play from 4 - 7.
