hello weird pet news, welcome to 2007
The past few days have seen more than their fair share of odd stories regarding the animals of Seattle. A series of convergences? Slow news cycles? Or an inspiration for a short story contest? You decide:
- In an effort to help protect pets that will raise a lot of money for Seattle Animal Shelter, undercover agents will be patrolling the city to flush out owners who have neglected to licence their dogs and cats. On balance, probably good for lost pets, bad for creative lost pet signs, and increases fear of seemingly friendly strangers looking to chat up you or your pooch at the park. [times]
- Speaking of things animals might fear in parks, yet are good for the pet population in general, a do-gooder in west seattle is in the habit of luring feral cats with treats so that they can be carted of for sterilization surgery. [westseattleherald]
- If you’re too busy to walk your dog to doggy day care, there is a dog taxi service in town. Also good news for dogs too lazy to be walked to their playdates. [dogster]
- Despite the higher expense, the taxi is a more reliable option than hopping the bus, which appears to be the preferred mode of transport in Portland. [king]
- At least when your dog runs away on the bus, he’s likely to be found within city limits. It’s more complicated when he takes the next plane to Tennessee and refuses to come home until locals offer up a plate of fried chicken. [pi]
