weekend agenda: solo stars, cover bands, indietronica, urban crafts, australian metal, mac & cheese.
Friday
- Amy Milan, who you probably know from Stars and Broken Social Scene takes a break from Arts and Crafts collectivism with a earthier, countryish solo tour. In one of the city’s lovelier supper club seating arrangements, complete with a limited menu from Wild Ginger’s kitchen [tripledoor]
- Seattle’s favorite cover band, the Dudley Manlove Quartet are having a Holiday Pageant to help you fight off the cold. The festivities kick off with an unofficial Batum Schrag CD release party — their new Throwing Stones EP is hot off the presses and available for the first time. [crocodile]
Saturday
- Ratatat + the Faint = blippy energetic indietronica [mp3] and manic electro dance rock [mp3]. The website says sold out, but it’s sponsored by Camel; so maybe you can trade a lung for a ticket at the door? [showbox]
- Don’t forget: 826 Seattle Birthday Extravaganza! [mb]
- Zee assures us that Amy Stolzenbach is the shit: she’s an excellent singer/songwriter/guitarist, she’s played with a whole heap of local musicians AND was the first Angus in Hell’s Belles. She’s playing as part of the lineup for the eclectic Chemistry Set [the l.a.b.]
- If your friends and family are the sort that appreciate gifts more creative, hand-made, and unique than a plastic gift card, it’s not too early to start shopping (particularly if you aren’t a d.i.y.er). The Urban Craft Uprising, features over 100 indie craft vendors from all over the country. Even if you’re not shopping, don’t miss the fashion show. It’s hosted by Beth Ditto of the Gossip, also known as NME’s coolest person in rock. [Seattle Center Exhibition Hall]
Sunday
- As Prefuse 73, Scott Herren makes uncategorizable glitcy hip-hop samply electronic genre-defying music. See for yourself, leave with your mind blown. [chopsuey]
- C Ro is so crushed that Australian earnest hard-rock lovers and big haired trio Wolfmother sold out that she’s driving to Portland to catch them. [moore]
- However, this means that she’ll be rushing back early for the Mac n Cheese Cook Off at Union Restaurant, in which celebrity cooks from around town make their all time favorite versions of your favorite comfort food. The admission price is steep ($45), but the proceeds benefit FareStart. And it’s an evening of mac & cheese, not Kraft dinner. [Union]
