Rivalry Weekend for College Football

apple_cup.jpgIt doesn’t get much better than this. This weekend plays host to two great rivalries – the Apple Cup, Washington’s big school rivalry and the Ohio State/Michigan game, arguably the greatest rivalry in the country.

This year the Apple Cup holds little more than state pride for our Huskies. A disappointing 4-7 (2-6 PAC-10) record gives the Dawgs no hope for a post-season bowl game. The Cougars (6-5, 4-4 PAC-10), however, are playing for much bigger stakes. An Apple Cup victory this weekend will give the Cougs a bowl bid, their first since the 2003 Holiday Bowl. My prediction: the Huskies will pull off a narrow upset. Kickoff is at 3:45.

osu_mu.jpg“The Game”, as it’s referred to by Ohioans and Michiganers, is hands down the biggest game of the season. #1 Ohio State (11-0, 7-0 Big Ten) welcomes archrival #2 Michigan (11-0, 7-0 Big Ten) to the Shoe for the Buckeyes’ second meeting against a #2 team. Dubbed Judgement Day by ESPN.com, this game will determine the Big Ten champion, who will head to the BCS championship, and, above all, glorious bragging rights.

Local Wolverines can feel at home at the Rocksport Bar and Grill in West Seattle while Buckeye transplants take over Sport Bar and Restaurant at the Seattle Center. My prediction: large parts of Columbus and Ann Arbor will be set ablaze shortly after insane Buckeye fans tear down the goal posts. Oh, and Michigan will lose. Kickoff is at 12:30.

arguably the greatest rivalry in the country.

Do you really want to piss off Alabama, Auburn, Texas, and Oklahoma fans that much?

For that matter, what about Army-Navy? They have guns.
