Dreaming of strip clubs?

Today’s Seattle P I makes all of your dreams come true–or, anyway, points out that you can open a strip club if you really want to, now, wherever you want [P-I}. This is the right time for it, since voters handily rejected the set of strip club rules the city was trying to impose and the mayor’s plan for a tenderloin down in Georgetown is still sitting on Peter Steinbrueck’s desk.

I don’t understand why this is even an argument, honestly. I come from Tampa, where there’s a strip club every three feet, and I don’t think I turned out too sexually deviant because of them. (Tampa’s 6-foot rule for lap dances was declared unconstitutional in 2001 and tossed.) I passed two strip clubs and one sex toy shop every day on my way to and from high school and never thought anything of it. When I moved here I found the lack of strip clubs a little odd and all the shrieking about the existing ones creepy.

But that’s just me. Now that the door is open for them, I want to know what you think. Should they be contained in one district or sprinked around the city?

I was thinking about that very question yesterday as I was listening to NPR and they were talking about it. I can see why people would not want them sprinkled throughout the city, but I can also see the argument against having them in one part of the city. Personally I think that having them in one section of town that’s designated like a Red Light District would add something a little more adventurous to Seattle. It doesn’t just have to be strip clubs there, but sex toy shops, lingerie shops, etc.

I agree, but this district should be Laurelhurst, not Georgetown.

    Hey Tony B.

    That would be:
“Personally I think that having them in one section of town that’s designated like a Red Light District would add something a little more adventurous to Seattle…. AS LONG AS IT’S NOT TOO CLOSE TO WHERE I LIVE”, right?

We’re already going to be sending all of our garbage into Georgetown, should we saddle them with our strip clubs too?

If some area of the city WANTS to be a redlight district, I could see this working well, but barring that, putting all strip clubs in one area smacks of elitism and another case of the rich having their way while screwing the poor.

I voted yes, but having seen 1 go down, I welcome our new lapdancing masters.

And I think strip clubs should be evenly distributed throughout the city. Why should they all be concentrated in SoDo or Georgetown? Is this some plan to keep all the “vice” in one part of town? If so, it’s the dumbest idea ever.

I think every neighborhood council should be required, within 90 days, to open a strip club. Even in the Broadmoor. It’s only fair.
