Happy New Year!

From 10 am to 9 pm Saturday, November 4, head out to the Seattle Center to celebrate the Hmong New Year. From the Center: “Several thousand Hmong people began emigrating to the Seattle area in 1976 following the end of the war in Vietnam and Laos. Historically farmers, they continue to celebrate the end of the farming season as the New Year. It is their only traditional holiday.”

The event includes:

  • traditional music, dance, and food
  • embroidery and basketry
  • games, including a ball toss game played for generations for courtship
  • educational materials

Afterwards, if you’re so inclined, you can always wander over to the Key for the T-birds game. The half-time event is Mascot Hockey, always a good time.
