If you’ve never experienced the fun ride that is the Water Taxi, you’re missing out on a charming little jaunt across the water which doesn’t add to the traffic problems on Alki. You definitely should check it out soon and by soon I mean now; Saturday, Septebmer 30 is the last day the Water Taxi runs this year.

The spinach scare [mb] is subsiding, and you thought it was safe to consume whatever you wanted again. Silly you. Now you need to keep away from unpasteurized milk [P-I], which has so far sent two local kids home from school with e. coli poisoning. (One of them is still in the hospital.)
The department of health is investigating, but in the meantime don’t drink any raw milk from Grace Harbor Farms in Whatcom County. What are the health benefits of drinking raw milk over pasteurized milk, anyway?

| If you are unable to obey the signals of the cop who is directing traffic, perhaps it might be in your best interest to consider other transportation options |
 |
Edit: This is a general, open note to Seattle drivers. I work downtown where there is a ton of construction and many traffic-directing cops and many, many times a day I see drivers who seem to think that obeying said police officers is optional.

Isn’t it great to have local newspaper columnists to perpetuate tired local stereotypes as a thin excuse for letting readers that they’ve not only hooked up with someone from across the country but also convinced this interstate lover to move to town?
Q: Does it really rain from Oct. 1 to July 12?
A: Absolutely not. I remember a winter back in the day — “Melrose Place” was on the tube at the time — when the sun came out on Dec. 12. People stopped at midspan on the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, dropped to their knees, and began worshipping it. I put on a Hawaiian shirt, pulled out a Jimmy Buffett cassette and made it to the second song before the sun set at its usual time — 2:45 p.m. [times]
Spoiler: next week’s column? Many people in Seattle drink coffee.

- a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Want a recap? cast your vote. [mb]
- A dying kid in Colorado wants you to eat some ice cream tonight at Cold Stone. The yellow cake, chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkle concoction is free; tips will still induce unjust employee singing. [p-i]
- Andrew Bird counts professional whistling among his many talents. Live, he recreates his songs from scratch, looping layer over layer until something whole and new appears before the audience. But will there be snacks? [chopsuey]
- Man Man don beards and war paint, pound on eclectic instruments, and chant in service experimental psych folk, leading indie critics to wax philosophical [popmatters]. Hometown soon-to-be heroes, the Fleet Foxes open. [neumos]

SIFF screened a documentary about singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson this year [#]. At their “Face the Music” rock party, Sean Nelson covered a bunch of Nilsson’s songs and he’s now assembling them into a tribute project with a band made up local all stars. Listen to a few of the products of Nelson’s Nilssonmania for yourself, through the magical power of the internet. [myspace]

Last week, Grey’s Anatomy launched into its third pseudo-Seattle-related season, picking up minutes after the last one left off. Metroblogging Seattle dropped the ball on continuing our proud tradition of hectically-typed recaps, on the premise that streaming web video made text-based locally-written play-by-plays a thing of the not-so-distant past. Since then, a couple people have written to ask when the recaps will return.
Right now they’re in a light coma, but still potentially revivable. What do you think? Do you want them back so that you can have a local virtual water cooler to gather around and dissect the fictional doctors of our fair city? Take the poll and we’ll re-evaluate whether they’re worth bringing back before it’s too late.
Choose wisely, the fate of my Thursday evenings rests in your hands.
