weekend agenda: books, guitars, plants, synthesizers

Friday

  • Friends of the Seattle Public Library hold their semi-annual gigantic book sale this weekend in Magnuson Park. Members can preview the hangar full of hundreds of thousands of books and other items tonight, but they’re only allowed to purchase twenty-five items. This leaves plenty for rest of us haul out of there starting Saturday. B.Y.O.B. [splfriends]
  • At long last, a show that makes me want to go to El Corazon. Unfortunately, whenever I tried to describe Ratatat to my friends I couldn’t adequately convey the band’s excellence to muster enthusiasm from the crowd. I turned to Wikipedia for assistance, found that they were classified under “indietronica” knew that any hope of getting company was pretty much dashed. Really, they’re great.

Saturday

  • A few days have passed since Sirens Sister’s new album dropped. Still $10-worth of love for the band? They play a show chocked full of top-flight local indie guitar rock talent with the Divorce and Siberian. [crocodile]

  • Is the vegetation situation in your apartment looking exceptionally bleak? Want to show potential or actual significant others that you’re the responsible and nurturing sort but not able to commit to a pet? The Friends of the Conservatory in Volunteer Park hold their Fall Plant Sale from 10 am - 3 pm. Adopt an orchid, cactus, succulent, or exotic tropical plant, depending on your level of confidence and memory for watering. [via alexgarcia]
