skip shipping with amazon’s unbox

Is Netflix too slow for you? Or do you prefer to own your movies and hate leaving the house to buy them and find paying for shipment too much of a budgetary constraint? Amazon.com feels your pain and offers a high-speed solution.

Seattle’s favorite local omni-shopping ecommerce giant offers a new service today: Unbox [amazon]. With it, you can shop for movies or television shows and download them straight to your own personal hard drive immediately. Great for people with lots of bandwidth, short on shelf storage, and in possession of massive home data storage facilities. To get you Windows users hooked on the convenience of instant ownership, Amazon’s offering a free [via $1.99 rebate] television download today; the rest of us will have to stick with iTunes and our neighborhood video store.
