Bumbershoot 2006 Day 0: People Talking and Singing

Last night’s pre-Bumbershoot benefit for 826 Seattle brought out a motley crew of figures both literary and musical: Sarah Vowel, Daniel Handler, Smoosh, Zach Rogue, Colin Meloy and Ben Gibbard to name a few. At the evening’s zenith (nadir?), nearly the whole ensemble took to the stage to perform Colin’s self-confessed “worst song I’ve ever written”: Dracula’s Daughter.

One can only imagine what the song would have originally sounded like, without either Daniel Handler’s accordian or Smoosh’s vocals. More pictures — including John “I’m a PC” Hodgman — after the jump.

It was really fun, I went to it last night, and Bumbershoot today. I really enjoyed Sarah Vowel’s story about the Fremont Expedition’s cartographer.
