anti-Bumbershoot agenda: this weekend

So, the lines are too long, the price is too high, (thirty bucks?!) and the crowds at Bumbershoot suck. No way are you heading anywhere near Seattle Center. Surely there must be something else to do around here on a beautiful sunny weekend.

No problem!

Go rent a kayak from the Northwest Outdoor Center and paddle around the lakes for awhile. Or pack a picnic and head over to Golden Gardens in Ballard.

Want to stay out of the sun? Check out the winners of the “Wildlife Photographer of the Year” award at the Burke Museum, 90 spectacular images. It’s the last weekend for the exhibit.

On Saturday evening, the Japanese Garden in the arboretum hosts a moon viewing, including koto music, dance, poetry, and tea ceremonies. Gates open at 6 PM and stay open until 10:30.

Or, if nothing sounds appealing, you could just grab a beer, sit outside, and take a snooze. It’s the kind of weekend where, as Walt Kelly almost said, it pays to get tired out a little early.
