oh boy, oberto! de-blimping the skyline

Oops. This was supposed to go in the “in other ‘blogs” roundup, but it got lost in the tabs. Just as well, forgetting about it this afternoon allowed enough time for the situation to be resolved, complete with mp3 evidence:

Justin (from RadicalCongruency) had grown tired of having his view obstructed by a beef jerky advertising blimp. Rather than quietly seething about it or using it as a topic of complaint among friends, he actually took the bold step of taking his quest for better vistas to City Hall in the form of a letter:

… When coming down Rainier Ave from S Jackson St, the view of Mt. Rainier is obstructed by the blimp. I do not know if flying such a blimp above the store is a violation of any laws, but it is ugly, and serves as yet another example of the hideous advertising to which residents of Rainier Valley are routinely and disproportionately subjected. … [radicalcongruency]

Not only did the city not dismiss his blighty concern as that of a cranky crackpot, they called him back within the day to explain why he’ll need to live with the ugliness.
