Where did this come from?

Here’s an odd little park. If you follow the tiny sign on Alaskan Way between the Port of Seattle terminal and the Coast Guard station, you’ll find this tiny little public access area.

It’s a parking lot, with a couple of now-missing benches, and a small bit of rocky beach looking out over the container ship docks. I sure as hell wouldn’t go swimming there. Apparently you can launch a kayak from there to go explore the Duwamish channel, and that might be fun.

Be careful, though. A couple of guys looked like they were working on a drug transfer while we were looking over the place. We didn’t stay long.

The park is named after somebody named “Jack Perry.” My Google-fu is weak; I couldn’t figure out who Perry was. Anyone?

Apparently you didn’t bother to explore this park? If you had kept walking you would have found a very cool 45-foot observation tower from which you can get a birds-eye perspective of the activity on Harbor Island as well as a sweeping view of Elliott Bay and downtown… Yes, it’s kind of random, but that’s exactly why Jack Block Park is so awesome! http://www.vrseattle.com/pages/browse.php?cat_id=267

Wrong park. Jack Block park and Jack Perry park are not the same thing.

Jack Block park is a 15 acre park located next to Terminal 5. It’s much better than Jack Perry park, which is barely 1 acre down by Terminal 30. See the Port’s site on parks.

Port Names Viewpoint After Killed Worker

    SEATTLE

The Port of Seattle Commission has named a waterfront viewpoint after a popular employee who was killed in a crane accident in 1988.

The Jack Perry Memorial Viewpoint at the north end of Terminal 30, 2715 E. Marginal Way S., will later include a plaque to honor other workers killed while working at the harbor.

Oops, sorry about that. I feel like a primo idiot. Still, who’d've thought we had two Jack Something Parks on the water, near Harbor Island? :)

I personally liked the huge rats that come out around dusk. Take your girlfriend. It’s really romantic.

Rodents of Unusual Size? I don’t think they exist.
