WOW! I guess maybe I could see Monroe in the movie…well, no, i can’t since I so closely associate Holly with Hepburn. But it would’ve been interesting to see!

I’m not disappointed that Varjack was supposed to be Capote. I wish there had been more of it in the film! Maybe then I might’ve liked Hannibal a bit more. Although I somehow doubt that George Peppard would have been able to pull it off. (I’ve never been a big George Peppard fan, can you tell? ;D Not even when he was Banacek.)

Capote wanted them to cast Marilyn Monroe, and was disappointed.

And sorry to tell everyone, but Paul Varjak (aka Fred aka Hannibal) is supposed to be Capote, and is supposed to be gay.

Not that I don’t love the movie.

Oh wow! I had no idea that Capote didn’t agree with casting Hepburn! I can’t even imagine anyone else in that role now!

I hate all that “belonging” business too. I also hate the Mickey Rooney/Mr. Yunioshi character. (I do understand that the movie was a product of its times but, come on, it’s racist.)

HAHAH! I love movies too much, Zee. I was just feigning indifference so that they didn’t realize that I “belonged” to them. hee hee ;D

I’ve heard that Capote was irked that the role went to Hepburn. (I’ve no idea if this is true or not). I will say that in the hands of many other actors, Holly’s decision would’ve been total Velveeta, but Hepburn at least makes it a somewhat more palatable cheese. What bothers me is the way that Hannibal insists that she “belongs” to him which isn’t exactly the most romantic phrasing possible when you consider how both he and Holly earn their keeps.

Up until that moment, this is one of the greatest movies ever, though.

Rakka, you talk like movies aren’t Very Seriously Important. Man, how’d you end up on this blog? :)

Yeah, that’s a good point about Cat and “Moon River” buuuut, I really hate how her decision in the movie negates pretty much everything she’s said up to that point. (If the truth be known, I walk out of the theatre/turn off the movie once Holly gets into the taxi and drives off.)

Not that it matters. It is, after all, only a movie. ;D

Somehow the swelling “Moon River” over the cat hugging in the rain induces a suspension of disbelief in the authenticity of Holly’s decision. On the other hand, it kind of turns the whole movie into a cheesefest, which is maybe not the best thing ever.
