HEATWAVE 2006!!!!!!

I spent most of the weekend taunting family back east, where it’s been in the 100s from Texas to Greenland. Or something like that. “It’s only in the 60s and 70s here! It’s cool and nice! HA HA HA!”

Oh, Mother Nature. You just had to come bite me on the ass.

From the National Weather Service scientific discussion:

the latest GFS builds a near-6000m 500mb ridge centered over Washington on Friday. This may be the hottest day of the year and possibly a record breaker in some areas. Upper heights certainly support temperatures will into the 90s for much of western Washington. The key for Seattle is whether or not a northerly sea breeze develops. Will plan to up temperatures this afternoon to at least GFS MOS with light gradients supportive of 90+ degrees over most the Puget Sound sound area. Records this time of year will be tough to beat but we may come close…. An excessive heat watch may also be needed for the area as we move closer to the end of the week.

So, I apologize to everyone this weekend as we endure the 90s. Maybe as penance I should stand in Jim Forman’s Columbia super-sport-parka-jacket (rated -80F) on top of Queen Anne Hill.

What you going to do to keep cool?

Movies, all day baby! Start at 11:30, and you can generally see three films before regular price (and if not, well, if you’re me, you just break out the student ID for discounts).
