friday agenda : wizard rock, free west seattle

Harryandthepotters 2005

Remainders and reminders for your friday night, courtesy of the metroblogging seattle suggest-o-matic:

  • Harry and the Potters start their multi-day Seattle-area takeover [mb], bringing hard core wizard rock to the Seattle Public Library. Although I lost the ability to differentiate between sincerity and irony somewhere in the early years of our present century, I’m pretty sure that the brothers DeGeorge (as Harry Potter year 7 and 4) are the real deal. I do know that when I accidentally stumbled into one of their shows last year at the University Bookstore, it was pure awesomeness that totally helped me out of the funk induced by the sad ending of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. They have a new album, a summer reading list (bring a book report for a free toothbrush!), and their live shows are one of the few places you can pick up their sweet merchandise. [myspace]
  • Speaking of three-day phenomena, today marks the opening of the West Seattle Summer Fest. It’s free, there are plenty of good bands (Carrie Akre, 50 Foot Wave) to keep you entertained, and I’ve heard that taking a water taxi to West Seattle is a magical experience.
  • The nation that brought us long bicycle races, freedom fries, revolutionary assistance, a large welcoming statue, and head-butting World Cup heartbreak celebrates the storming of a prison [wiki] today. Assuming that you didn’t stock up on airline tickets this morning, one of the better ways for you to commemorate Bastille Day is to head down to Belltown tonight where Le Pichet will offer a menu of Parisian street foods, live music, DJs, and general merriment. (6 pm to the “small hours” [#])
