bumbershoot : begin micromanaging your weekend

Yes, your Labor Day has already been blocked out with a large “Bumbershoot” for the most of three-day weekend, but now you can start plotting your entertainment options hour-by-hour. The actual schedule of performances [#] for the festival was posted yesterday; so the annual tradition of complaining about the lineup, getting excited about the lineup, and fretting over which band to see when two of your favorites are playing at the same time in the lineup is only bound to intensify. Let me begin with a “New Pornographers & Spoon warming up the Sunday mainstage?” and follow up with a “Steve Miller band still exists?” Countered by a “live version of Best Week Ever?!” and a “thank the umbrella gods — Mates of State is playing outside instead of in that often godawful Exhibition Hall! (as are Metric, Feist, Rogue Wave, Jamie Liddell, etc. etc.)”

On the bright side, you still have a month and a half to optimize your game plan and the non-music portions are looking especially strong this year. Or, you could be one of those people who just shows up and bounces around from funnel cake stand to giant line to air conditioned venue all day, finding great things entirely by surprise. Either way, it’s worth noting that the pre-sale [#] I mentioned last month [mb] still seems to be selling tickets at ultra-cheap to reasonable prices. Buy now, before you’re stuck paying $30/day at the gate like a sucker.
