monday agenda: once you’re born you can no longer hide [4/5]

Onceyoureborn Clip

I already blindly recommended Once you’re born, you can no longer hide [siff] earlier this month. If you missed it then, this afternoon is its final festival screening this afternoon. Giordana’s takes the Big Issue of illegal immigration in Italy and brings it to a family scale without turning it into a Very Special Movie. On a weekend guys-only sailing vacation on the beautiful coast, young Sandro falls overboard. When he’s miraculously rescued by a refugee vessel, he falls in with a pair of Romanian siblings hoping to make it into the country. Although the film doesn’t dig too deeply into all of the facets of the immigration debate, it also doesn’t try to hand out any easy answers. The plot meanders a bit, but the actors — kids and adults, alike — are impressive, as is the scenery. (4:30 pm; Pacific Place)
