The great breakfast quest

I don’t know if you know this (or care), but I am on a self-imposed breakfast/brunch quest. It is my goal to find the best, most reliable breakfast place in the city. Why? Well, for no other reason except that I love breakfast with all of my grinchy little heart.

So, in the course of discussing my most recent breakfast discovery (Peso’s Kitchen - which by the way, I recommend) with a fellow breakfast lover, she mentioned Salty’s for brunch. Huh. I had heard from more than one source that the brunch there was just meh, especially for the price. But this new source assured me that no, Salty’s is the “best in the city.”

But nooo. Really? Salty’s is so close and I’ve been shunning it for so long. Have I been remiss? On top of this, I’m having guests in town next week and Salty’s might be a good option but only if it is indeed the best in the city. I think I need more input and thus, I’m turning the question over to you.

What do you think, Seattle? Is the Salty’s brunch worth the price tag?

Been there once, wouldn’t go again.
Our absolute favorite W. Seattle breakfast place is Easy Street. Best part is that you can get lunch for breakfast. Burger, philly, quesadilla, whatever you want. Spouse prefers the chicken fried steak. Second choice, Alki Cafe, but only for the challah french toast.

You’re right. That challah french toast is delish.
Thanks so much for weighing in.

Salty’s is “worth” it for perhaps ambiance and atmosphere, special occasions-getting dressed up/taking guests for a proper brunch, but they are pricey and there’s always the unusual long wait (to be seated) despite having reservations. The selection of food is pretty okay, especially if you like seafood with your brunch…and a good cocktail always make for good times.

Here are some favorite breakfast/brunch spots:

West Seattle–Luna Park, Eats Market Cafe, Endolyne Joe’s, Easy Street
    Rainier Valley–Silver Fork, Geraldine’s Diner
    Burien–Huckleberry’s
Downtown–Planet Java Diner in Pioneer Sq–breakfast all day!
    Greenwood–Georgia’s Greek Deli
    Crown Hill–Wild Mountain Cafe
    Mukilteo–Pantry Cafe
    Bellevue–Chace’s Pancake Corral

There are many more. I am often partial to good honest food at unpretentious places. But, if someone else is picking up the tab, you really should go to Salty’s brunch once, especially if you like seafood. It is way over the top. Speaking of over the top…the Space Needle is pricey to visit or dine at, but if you have visitors who want to go there, consider breakfast. You get free admission to the tower without paying for an overpriced mediocre dinner.
