the war on terror
Hey everyone — how’s your terror level? On a national scale, I’d guess that it’s about $125 million lower than last year. Perhaps you didn’t even notice the small victory, but our local war on terror must have been a success. Federal funding for Seattle’s counter-terrorism has been cut from $11.8 million in 2005 to $9.1 in 2006 (almost three million dollars worth of Jack Bauers!) [p-i]. If you think we’ll be partying it up over not letting the terrorists win, just think of the massive celebrations in New York. Their anti-terror budget is being cut by 40 percent [gawker].
While it’s totally awesome to be in the “terrorists are sick of us” club, this could result in terrorist abandonment issues if we’re not careful. After all, what did we do to make the evil-doers decide to pack up their threats and move their menace away from the coasts and into the heartland?

Yeah, even tho I’m not moving to NYC proper, I’m planning on spending a lot of time in the City, and I’m really not pleased about this.
But hey, I’m sure Missouri needs those extra dollars. Massive terrorist targets there, ya know.
