Keeping the Gargoyles dry
Gargoyles Statuary, at 4550 University Way in the U-District, has long been one of Seattle’s wonderful oddities: a store full of goblins, griffins, ghouls, and the occasional winged feline, in anything from paperweights to mirrors to candleholders to stone artwork for the garden. Lately they’ve branched out into brightly colorful fantasy sculpture.
Gargoyles had a minor disaster over the weekend. During last Saturday’s heavy rain, a storm drain overflowed and flooded their entire store.
Gayle Nowicki, Gargoyles store manager, tells us that their stock came through the flood mostly without incident, but cleaning the floors has been an expensive nightmare. The rain today isn’t helping. Insurance won’t cover the damage, so the business finances are a bit strained at the moment.
If your apartment or house needs a bit of flair, it’s a great time to go buy an extra something from Gargoyles and help them recover. All statuary is on 10% off sale, says Gayle. They’re open every day from 11 to 7 PM.
