I think the demise of the sales tax deduction sucks. However, spreading out mass transit costs doesn't bother me, since increased use of buses, trains, and the like benefits everyone by decreasing use of roads and improving our air quality. The nickel for more roads benefits drivers and taxes drivers. I'll admit that better roads can help our overall economy by making it easier for truckers to get to ports and whatnot, but I guess that just isn't as important to me. As for regretting the nickel tax due to increased gas prices, I feel quite the opposite - I'd rather we tax the crap out of gas until we reach the point where prices actually impact demand. Further, our gas taxes are static amounts, not percentages, even though percentages would actually make sense and help to eliminate the need to constantly wonder how to pay for roads and transit.
Finally, and most importantly, I am in complete opposition to adding an extra "s" to make the word "bus" plural.

Uh, neurosis compels me to amend my previous comment due to, um...stupidity on my part.

The second sentence should read: "I've never actually used the sales tas deductions so I won't miss it, but THAT does seem a little unfair to me."

Actually, yes, I do think it's fair. We all benefit from an improved transit system.

I've never actually deducted used the sales tax deduction so I won't miss it but that does seem a little unfair to me.
