ridiculous controversy resolved : 12th man
Remember earlier this year, when it was possible that Seattle would have a NFL champion in its portfolio of professional sports teams? The most ridiculous part of all of it was how the “12″ flying above the city infuriated the Aggies at Texas A & M, who held the rights to the “12th man” and wanted Seattle to back off their inspirational turf.
Several months later, with the Super Bowl but a distant guacamole-soaked memory, the hilarious controversy has been resolved in the most boring way possible. Under a breathtakingly dull compromise, the Seahawks and the Aggies will both continue to use their traditional (”decades old”) iconography to recognize the incredible magical contributions of fan support to football victories:
the Seahawks acknowledge Texas A&M’s ownership rights of the trademarked phrase. However, the NFL team may continue using it under license. Neither side admitted any fault or liability. [chicago tribune]
Not exactly the resolution that demands an inspirational score on the made for television movie, but at least we can put this nonsense behind us during next year’s quest for gridiron honor.
