Julia Sweeney lets go of God
Last night I went to the rather misleadingly-marketed “Conversation with Ira Glass and Julia Sweeney” … I mean, there was a little Ira action, and a little bit of conversation between them at the end, but the centerpiece of the evening was an hour-and-a-quarter excerpt from Sweeney’s one-woman show, “Letting Go of God”. And that was OK by me. I really liked the show — thought it was hilarious, absorbing, touching. But I wonder how I would have felt if I were a true believer who’d had it sprung on me like that.
