weekend agenda : horses, multiplication, monster mash

Time to fire up the recommendomatic for a couple night’s worth of hot picks for your weekend:

  • Tonight’s Band of Horses show at Neumo’s is sold out. But you never know, stand outside looking cute enough and someone might sell you his or her spare ticket at close to face value.
    Saturday

  • However, tickets for Jamie Lidell’s show on Saturday at Chop Suey are still available. When you think of a guy making music with laptops and samples, you might not think of “engaging performer” as your first guess about his stage presence. Lidell is off-the-charts compelling, both for watching and listening purposes. Creating danceable soul from the ground up resampling his own voice and found sounds takes a lot of effort; he’s more than up to the task. Go, and be impressed.
  • Drop by Ballard’s Sonic Boom for an early Pretty Girls Make Graves show. It starts at 6, but arrive early to get a good spot and to catch up on all of your CD buying needs.
  • For mixed-up music, don’t forget that Saturday is also the monthly FrankenBOOT night at Re-Bar. All of those songs you loved or hated, mixed together for something entirely more fun than you might have expected.
