Elbow at the Showbox, tonight

Well, this one snuck up on me: Manchester band Elbow is in Seattle tonight, for one of only nine stops on their current mini-tour of North America. I don’t think I’ll be able to go, but thought you might like to. Their songs are lovely, melodic — I’ve heard them compared to Radiohead and Coldplay, but recently gave them a listen despite my anti-Coldplay snobbery. And I like them.

You can listen to a recent performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic here and samples of their studio tracks on their website.

Show details: Richard Swift opens for Elbow at the Showbox. Doors 8pm, $17, 21+.

i second your opinion of this show. i first saw elbow when they came through with south and mellowdrone at the croc. that was a damn fine show from start to finish.

Coldplay/Elbow is a VERY poor comparison. IMHO, the only band that seems to be anywhere close to them for mood/atmospherics and groove is the band Doves, who are, actually good friends of theirs.

I really liked Coldplay’s first album, but they seem to be content writing rather lightweight (but deep-sounding) pop tunes, while Elbow is working on a whole different level.
