Apropos the question of possible alternatives to building more and bigger freeways (brought up here): Jaime Lerner – architect, planner and former mayor of Curitiba, Brazil – will be speaking at Benaroya Hall on Monday April 10th at 7:30. Admission is free.

Curitiba has set the standard for sustainable urban development (you can read about it here, here, and here). You want to hear about solutions? Lerner is your guy.
